Best of Luck to Emily and Shay!

SHAY- When I walked into Starbucks years ago I never imagined that the smiling blonde barista behind the counter who put smiley faces on my cup and wrote little “hello” messages when my husband went for our Sunday morning coffee run would end up being not only a family friend, but a fabulous employee.  Today, after working loyally for 16Underground from the beginning, when the store was nothing but a stained concrete floor and boxes and boxes full of new clothing and shoes I say a sad goodbye to Shay.  I do however wish her the best of luck in her new life, and hope it’s full adventures and exciting new opportunities!  Shay you’ll be missed and I’ll think of you everytime I come across fun and funky accessories that you always have the ability to pull together into an ecletic and exciting look that just screams “SHAY”

EMILY- Words cannot express to you the impact you have had on 16 Underground.  Through the creation of amazing fashion shows and merchandising, you have given 16 Underground a reputation of fun and class!  The hours and hours of your own time you put into making 16 Underground it’s best is beyond anything any employer could possibly ask for.  To call you simply an employee of 16 Underground would understate the loyalty and efforts that you have given us.  You’re talents far exceed the average person and I have no doubt that your ability to keep a sense of humor in some of the most stressful situations, your impeccable attention to detail, and the endless gifts you have to offer will take you far.  I am constantly amazed at the endless layers there are to “Emily”, there’s truly nothing you can’t do or accomplish.  I will definitely miss the comfort of going shopping with an intelligent, fashion savvy, taser toting companion!

THANK YOU TO BOTH OF YOU! YOU WILL BE MISSED!

OMG! My entire wardrobe SHRUNK!

March 30th, 2010. Published under News. No Comments.

In spite of the gorgeous bright blue skies, white puffy clouds and gorgeous sunny weather, this day did NOT start well.  After trying on what felt like 50 pairs of jeans from my own closet only to have 2 buttons fly off, one pair get stuck halfway up my legs, one create a suction around my thighs and backside like microwaved cling-wrap, and one broken zipper… I threw on a sun dress and headed to the store to prove that somehow my entire wardrobe had entered the Twighlight Zone and come back 2 sizes smaller.  This could be the ONLY answer as I workout with a trainer who kicks my behind twice a week at 5am!  Pulling every pair of cute denim pants I could find, I quickly found out that either the store inventory had taken the trip with my closet, or…yes…I had indulged in a few to many trips to Pink Mango, the new and fabulous local self service yogurt shop…  Hey! I like supporting local small businesses!

Needless to say, I had 2 choices if I was going to pull off any decent looking spring wardrobe.  Starve myself on some ridiculously insane “lose inches fast” diet (never a good idea) or go up a size and perhaps eliminate a trip or 2 or 5  from the drive-thru window so I could eventually fit back into…well…my entire wardrobe.  I chose the latter, and I must admit, once I pulled those babies on with one fowl swoop and fastened them, I immediately felt like I had lost those inches already.  So while I attempt to prepare for bathing suit season, I will sport a tag or two with a higher number than I’m used to, but better to fit than walk around with a zipper being pulled so insanely in 2 different directions that it could burst at any moment.  I still love you Pink Mango, but for now I will save you for a special treat for the kids.

We’ve all had that moment, that we’re in the dressing room and we’re ready to throw in the towel…just remember, nobody can see the number tucked into your pants.  Wear something that fits right and flatters the body you have NOW, not the one you aspire to have and walk out the door with CONFIDENCE knowing you’re still FABULOUS!

Where’s Chopper? Mascot gone wrong…

Chopper 3

Chopper has been MIA for the past few months.  So it’s only natural that some of you have emailed us and said “hey! what happened to Chopper?!”  Apparently Chopper LOVES fashion…specifically SHOES…but not the way you and I might love shoes.  Yup! You guessed it, he loves to EAT shoes!

I found this out when I was busy cooking dinner one night and realized that Chopper was noticeably absent from his usual activity of tormenting my cat.  I searched and searched the house only to find him in the shadows of my closet chewing away on my brand new blue suede cobalt Miss Me Angel-6’s http://www.16underground.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=ST-6073 .  As you can well imagine, I was NOT a happy camper that night and to top it off, I totally overcooked my green beans.

After several times of trying to convert Chopper into that really cute little mascot that hangs out at the store and charms the daylights out of customers…we gave in and allowed him to be a DOG.  So now instead of drooling over the endless aisles of shoes in our warehouse, he spends his days digging up my apple tree (note the holes in the dirt in the background of the picture), barking at the dog next door, and herding my cat.  He will remain our “mascot” but he will also remain…at home… for now.

He still makes a little time for fashion though, like when he barks incessantly at my high heeled boots as they clickety-clack across our tile floor, or attacks any moving part of my outfit as I scramble out the door.  It’s not his fault, these items are clearly antagonizing him and a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do.

But don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated on his latest shenanigans (I totally had to look that word up for spelling after typing it).  Thanks for asking!

Gemstone BraceletssunglassesBright Bold Bracelets

Spring is finally here!

I’m thinking COLOR,  BEADS and CHUNKY GEMSTONES!!! The SUN is out!!! Time to DITCH the dark colors and have some fun with bright new accessories!  Add a splash of color with our mid-size beaded cuffs or chunky gemstone bangles!   I love to add them to my normal, everyday outfits like jeans and a tank top to add a little flair.  Accessories definitely can change the most basic outfit from “ho hum” to “understated but stylish” and present a completely pulled together look.  I love our GENUINE gemstone chunky bracelets that would make Betty Rubble turn green with envy!  Seriously, these bracelets are exquisite!

Fun and flirty sundresses are the perfect backdrop for our gemstone drop earrings and beaded necklaces.  I’ll throw on my favorite pair of strappy sandals and create an eclectic  look  by layering with some bright beaded stretch bangles, mid-sized chunky cuffs, and thin single strand beaded bracelets.  It gives your outfit some depth and texture (that’s my attempt at fancy fashionista talk)  They’re definitely eye catching, bold and FUN! FUN! FUN!

And of course channel your inner celebrity with a stylish pair of shades!  Go big! Go bold!

BE CHIC!

Meet the newest member of our team!Chopper is our rescue pup.  Part Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle/and Dachshund.

He dislikes walks, other dogs and leashes…

He enjoys sleeping, chewing, barking, digging, AND hanging with us while we’re working.  He’s great for stress breaks and can always make us smile :)

Currently he’s mastered sitting, will “come” when called, but needs to work on random nipping and walking on a leash.  And he’s SOOOOO cute!!!!

Brandee

Name: Brandee

Style Influences: I’m a mishmash of styles and my influences come from everywhere, it depends on my mood. I love casual, camoflauge capris and tanks, but I also adore a great pair of super high heeled boots paired with leggings or skinny jeans, and every so often I love to get fancy in classic dresses paired with a fun colored set of heels to add personality.

Favorite song of the moment:  Emily introduced me to Cobrastyle, which I love every time I hear it.  But I’ll always turn up the radio and dance with my daughter when Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” comes on.  I FINALLY downloaded it on my iPod, it’s only been out for how long???

Favorite movie: My Cousin Vinny….it’s a classic and it makes me laugh every time.

Favorite 16 Underground purchase:  Has to be my new Lorena-7 brown boots…I LOVE them…I might need to get a black pair, I think people are already starting to get tired of seeing me wear them daily. But I get compliments on them every time and I see them in all the retail stores for sooo much more than we have them for  :) .

Favorite 16 Underground Event: Tiffany Amber Breslin Memorial Fund – everyone did an amazing job, our models were gorgeous and showed great personality on the runway, Project Dance outdid themselves on their performances, our local businesses really banded together for an amazing cause.  However a close second is our Grand Opening Event last January…the turnout was fantastic and it was so fun!

Favorite Current Trend: I love skinny jeans!  They’re sooo comfy and I love all the colors and they look sooo great with boots or high heels.

Name: Amanda

Style Influences:  I would have to say my style is classic casual contemporary, basically if I see it and like it I’ll buy it. : )

Favorite song of the moment: There are so many right now!! If I had to choose two they would be, Lily Allen “Smile”, and Puddle of mud, “Away from me” I have a really random taste of music, it just depends what mood I’m in.

Favorite movie: Wow, I love movies but my ultimate favorites are; Dirty Dancing, Nightmare Before Christmas, and a Walk to Remember!

Favorite 16 Underground purchase:  Our new Lorena 7 Black Miss Me boots that I wear everywhere they’re so comfortable!!

Favorite 16 Underground Event: The Sailing with Style fashion show to benefit the Tiffany Amber Breslin memorial.

Favorite Current Trend: Right now I’m really into leggings with a sweater dress and my Lorena 7 Miss Me boots.

megan

Name: Megan

Style Influences: I love the classic silhouettes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy, but I love the eclectic and styling with the unconventional, like taking a bedskirt and figuring out how to make it into a dress. If I could dress in Dior Couture everyday, I would.

Favorite song of the moment: “Australia” by The Shins

Favorite movie: Toss up between “Lord of the Rings” and “The Royal Tenenbaums”- but for the young at heart, I highly recommend “My Date With Drew”

Favorite 16 Underground purchase: My brown suede flats. Perfect amount of heel without tripping ;) Plus, the texture makes any outfit more interesting.

Favorite 16 Underground Event: Our fashion shows! I love seeing all of the store’s different styles, and we always have an incredibly supportive audience!

Favorite Current Trend: Floral patterns. It’s like grandma’s favorite tablecloth just became re-vamped into an adorable skirt or blazer. Thanks grandma!

Shay

Name: Shay

Style Influences: I would say my biggest style influence is a mix between skate/surf, the 60’s, and urban culture. I love anything from bellbottoms to Rastafarians, even punk rock. I like to mix up my style depending on my mood. I wear what I like and love to keep my style movin’ and groovin’!

Favorite song of the moment: It’s hard to narrow it down!! Um let’s see, I would say one is “Stay with You” by a group called Lemon Jelly, “Homecoming” by The Teenagers, and Emily introduced to me as well, “Cobrastyle” by Teddybears.

Favorite movie: Oh, there are too many for words.  Any Bill Murray movie is a definite favorite, and Requiem for a Dream.

Favorite 16 Underground purchase: My black Celebrity Pink pea coat and my mustard platform pumps.

Favorite 16 Underground Event: Our Grand Opening, of course!

Favorite Current Trend: Cut-out tights, long blazers, and funky colored pumps.

Name: Emily

Style Influences: I love old vintage and retro style!  Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, and Veronica Lake to name a few. Anything from Victorian Gothic to 60s inspires me. I love skirts, dresses, and heels with fun pops of color.

Favorite song of the moment: There are so many!! Right now my favorites would be “Hit ‘n’ Run” and “Walk Like a Zombie” by Horrorpops. However, I’m also obsessed with Robyn’s song “Because of Boy’s” a remake of “Cobrastyle” by Robyn which is a remake of “Cobrastyle” by the Teddybears. All of them awesome  songs!

Favorite movie: It’s a tie between Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Penelope. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a classic. Penelope is amazing plus the colors and clothes are inspiring.

Favorite 16 Underground purchase:  So many to choose from! I think I have to go with the new Jocelyn pumps. They are these super cute retro peep-toes, patent black croc pumps with a 5 inch heel!

Favorite 16 Underground Event: I have fond memories of all our event but the most memorable backstage was our most recent Project T.O.U.C.H fashion show. It was a bit crazy backstage!

Favorite Current Trend:  My favorite trend right now is the colors. I absolutely love the fall colors like mustard, cobalt, and deep purple. Especially for accessories like coats, pumps, and belts.
